Biography: Beryl Bainbridge was born in Liverpool in 1934 but now lives in North London. She was an actress before she began to write. She is the author of over seventeen novels, three works of non-fiction and six plays for stage and television.
Her books, The Dressmaker and An Awfully Big Adventure, have been made into films. Her work includes Every Man for Him- self; which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize in 1996 and won the Whitbread Novel of the Year Prize in 1997, and Master Georgie, which was shortlisted for the Booker Prize In 1998 and won the W H Smith Literary Award and the James Tait Black Memorial Prize in 1999.
Her most recent novel, According to Queenie, has received great critical acclaim.
Beryl Bainbridge is also available for after dinner and corporate events.
