An Audience With Clive James

Biography: Clive James was born in Sydney, Australia in 1939 and has had a long and distinguished career as a writer and broadcaster. He was christened 'Vivian' but changed his name after Vivien Leigh appeared as Scarlet O'Hara in Gone With the Wind saying that after that 'the name became irrevocably a girl's name no matter how you spelled it.'

Clive came to England at the age of 22 to study at Cambridge where he was a member of Footlights and wrote for Varsity.

After university Clive went on to work for The Observer as a television reviewer, a popular column which he wrote for 10 years. Among his other writings are 4 novels, several books of poetry and his highly acclaimed memoirs, the fourth volume of which is published in the autumn.
