After Dinner Speaker Biography: Leslie’s life story is a particularly colourful one, and she writes with an elegant and engaging style. After a childhood in occupied France, she became the star of Roland Petit’s legendary ballet company at 17, and had her ‘big break’ when she was discovered by Gene Kelly, who brought her to Hollywood to co-star with him in An American In Paris.
She then went on to star in a number of classic films, including Gigi (playing the title role, of course), Lili, and Daddy Long Legs with Fred Astaire. She also writes about her marriage to Peter Hall, her two-year love affair with Warren Beatty, and her friendships with Vincent Minnelli, Judy Garland, Rudolf Nureyev and many others. There certainly can’t be many stars who have danced with Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire, Rudolf Nureyev and Mikhail Barishnikov!
