Biography: Sir Jimmy Young was born in Cinderford, Gloucestershire and spent seven years in the RAF before turning to broadcasting in 1949. Before he became a broadcaster he was a successful pop singer and had many hit records during his singing career, including three No.1s.
The Jimmy Young Programme was one of the most successful programmes on Radio 2 with over 5.3 million listeners per week. Jimmy joined BBC Radio 2 in 1973 where he stayed, presenting his daily programme until December 2002.
Jimmy Young has interviewed many Prime Ministers, politicians and top names over the years and the programme has been broadcast live from around the world.
Jimmy Young is now a columnist for they Sunday Express and has published his autobiography, 'Forever Young'.
Jimmy has received numerous awards over the years, he was awarded an OBE in 1979, a CBE in 1993 and was knighted in 2002 for his services to broadcasting.
