Tony Benn's indomitable energy
Much is being made of the fact that indomitable left wing politician Tony Benn has, at the age of 86, downsized from his big four storey house in London’s Holland Park to a “warden-controlled flat” nearby.
According to the Daily Mail, a friend says that following a recent fall, Benn felt he’d be “safer in a retirement home.”
But one shouldn’t underestimate the energy of the campaigning former MP and Labour cabinet minister. He was the first ever subject of An Audience With...and remains a popular regular on the Clive Conway Celebrity Productions circuit.
He’s at the Gatehouse Theatre in Stafford tomorrow night (Thursday December 1,) at the Strode Theatre in Street, Somerset on Tuesday December 13 and booked for a raft of appearances up and down the country throughout 2012.
Remarkable for a man heading into his late eighties. But perhaps not so remarkable for Tony Benn who was diagnosed with chronic lymphatic leukaemia in 1990 and told he probably only had three years left to live.
