Description: Actor David Benson takes a fascinating look at the television work of the much-missed entertainer Kenneth Williams, featuring rare footage of some of Williams’ finest performances, ranging from stand-up, interviews, sketch comedy and autobiography.
Acclaimed for his unsurpassed performance as Kenneth Williams in his one man show Think No Evil of Us, Benson brings his own unique insights into Williams’ work and private life, including readings from letters and diary entries.
He also tells of his own special connection with the Carry On star: his prize-winning entry, aged 13, to the Jackanory Story Writing Competition. His prize? The story was performed on television by Kenneth Williams! Though the BBC has lost the footage, Benson’s own sound recording made in 1975 still exists. Here he recreates the broadcast for the first time.
David Benson is well known by Kenneth Williams fans for his appearances on several documentaries on the comedian (Reputations, Heroes of Comedy) and his three-part Radio 4 series The Private World of Kenneth Williams, also available as a BBC CD.
