Biography:

William Hague was Leader of the Opposition from 1997-2001, having served in the Major Government as Secretary of State for Wales and Minister for Pensions. He is perhaps best known for his skill in parliamentary debate. Channel 4 viewers voted him ‘Politician of the Year’ in 2001 and he was the Spectator’s ‘Parliamentarian of the Year’ in 1998.

William Hague lives in Yorkshire where he was born and brought up, and where he is the Member of Parliament for Richmond. After attending a local comprehensive school he took a First Class degree at Oxford and a distinction in his MBA at INSEAD Business School in France. He was a consultant at McKinsey & Co for five years before entering Parliament.

William is now using some of his business skills again as an adviser to the JCB Group and Terra Firma Capital Partners. He has written a major biography of William Pitt the Younger which has been very well received. Politically, he remains active in Parliament and is a regular contributor to TV programmes and newspaper columns.
